Tara deroo, lmsw

Tara is a licensed clinical social worker, earning a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Calvin College and a Master’s of Social Work from Western Michigan University. She provides mental health services to individuals, families and couples who are experiencing varying levels of difficulties due to life situations or mental health concerns. Tara’s professional experience includes working with psychological or emotional problems such as stress, anxiety, depression and mood disorders. She also has years of experience within a hospice setting, providing services to individuals and families facing life threatening illnesses, grief and loss. Tara develops personal treatment plans; utilizing CBT, Play Therapy, and other treatment methods to address individual’s feelings and find new ways to deal with, and alleviate, distress. She has also facilitated grief and loss educational groups for children and adults.

CARMON FERMAN, LMSW

Carmon is a licensed clinical social worker earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University. She provides mental health counseling services to adults, adolescents, children, families and couples, experiencing difficulties in areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, employment issues, substance abuse and adjustments in daily living. Carmon has years of experience in the field of criminal justice providing therapeutic services to professionals working within the criminal justice system and those individuals involved in the criminal justice system (i.e., trauma, vicarious/secondary trauma, substance use disorders, etc.). Her therapeutic approaches are strength-based and are eclectic in nature with emphasis placed on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy and trauma work.

Mary B. Lier, Lmsw, ACSW

Mary is a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience treating adults, children and families. Mary is a graduate of Calvin College with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. She is well recognized for treating all level of anxiety disorders and in particular co-occurring behavioral health issues such as depression, grief, ADHD, chronic health problems, divorce and difficult family relationships. Mary is certified in EMDR ( Eye Moviement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and specializes in trauma & post traumatic stress disorders. Mary's treatment modialities include cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focusedl, psychodynamic and motivational therapy to assist clients achieve their personal goals towards health and wellness. She frequently presents on these topics to area churches and community groups. Mary is a professor at Western Michigan University and enjoys motivaiting students and teaching the latest in evidenced based therapy proactices. In addition, Mary is a certified crisis counselor and provides crisis counseling services for area businesses and colleges following traumatic community events.

Nancy Kingma RN,LLP,LPC,NCC

Nancy has been supporting women, children, and families for more than forty years.  She is licensed as both a nurse, (BSN, University of Michigan), and a therapist, (LLP, LPC, Western Michigan University). She is also a National Certified Counselor and has certification in Holistic Health. In combining these two professions, Nancy motivates and encourages individuals and families to move toward wholeness, health and their ultimate purpose in life. Nancy's obstetrical background gives her a unique perspective in caring for mothers and families dealing with postpartum depression. Additionally, her 15 years as Bereavement Coordinator at Spectrum Health and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital have established Nancy as a leading expert in grief and loss, particularly with families having experienced the death of an infant or child. Nancy specializes in trauma, complex trauma, anxiety, and phobias, and is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained therapist.

 

 

 

Kurt Visker, LMSW

Kurt is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in work with adolescents, and adults. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Calvin College and graduated with his Master’s degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University.

Kurt’s expertise includes working with couples to create stronger relationships and problem solve the challenges of parenting.  He has success working with children and adults recovering from trauma.  Kurt has specialized experience working with husbands who are supporting their wives with a perinatal mood disorder. He also has experience working with individuals that experience anger issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, spiritual issues, anxiety, social anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and men’s issues. His treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, Gottman method, motivational therapy, and solutions focused therapy.
